Just a general reflection I’ve had over the past few months, particularly in light of the current economic crisis, is how little we control our own wealth. As a kid, whenever I needed money or wanted to get something, it seemed like the limiting factor was always my parents willingness to give me it. I would request (sometimes beg, lol), and sometimes I’d get what I wanted while other times I didnt.
Even in college, I always had these lofty ideas about how easy it would be become financially stable and sound, but the more I actually got into corporate america and working, the more I realized that my control was, at best, limited. There’d be times where I’d have saved up so much money, but then out of the blue random things would come up and I’d find myself completely broke. Other times I’d be broke, thinking that I was encountering a financial crisis, only to be surprised with rizq completely out of nowhere.
The only thing which has held true throughout all of this has been the promise of Allah, wa lillahil hamd.
Food for thought:
Similarly, no apostle came to the Peoples before them, but they said (of him) in like manner, “A sorcerer, or one possessed”! Is this the legacy they have transmitted, one to another? Nay, they are themselves a people transgressing beyond bounds!
Then turn your back upon them for you are not to blame;
And continue to remind, for surely the reminder profits the believers.
I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.
Surely Allah is the Bestower of sustenance, the Lord of Power, the Strong. So surely those who are unjust shall have a portion like the portion of their companions, therefore let them not ask Me to hasten on.
Woe, then, to the Unbelievers, on account of that Day of theirs which they have been promised! [thariyaat: 52-60]
